Sand and Stone

It wears her down, like the earth
ruled by her tides:
moon and sun, wind and season.

Waves rushing toward the shore,
of delicate shell and bone.
Turning in and pulling away,
in somersault dance.

And you: my land, my star and everything,
resent this old exchange
resisting and failing,
to remain unchanged
as stone becomes sand.
